The project objectives focus on improving the quality of life of children with disabilities in Bulgaria. The Equine Assited Therapy Association introduces, validates and disseminates the unfamiliar in Bulgaria methodology for working with children with disabilities, namely, the Equine Assited Therapy or therapy using horses.
Thanks to the financial support of Sofia Municipality Europe Programme 2015, provided jointly with the Fund for Innovations in Culture, the Association already has at its disposal the only specialist in psychotherapy with horses (possessing an international certificate for using this method) in Bulgaria. Three Sofia districts whose children attend therapy once a week are included in the therapeutic programme. Specialized equipment and literature for therapeutic riding have been purchased. Seminars have been held aiming to raise awareness in society and institutions about the high efficiency of the method and its applicability, as well as to disseminate the idea of reaching a wider public and informing it about the problems of these children.
Unfortunately, Bulgaria still lacks modern and innovative practices in working with children with disabilities that meet European standards, as well as trained specialists in respect to these modern methods of work. Equine Assited Therapy Association is trying to change that by introducing and disseminating an innovative and highly effective proven method for improving the mental and physical development of children with disabilities.
